Cosman (Mrs. Otty Keith) in 1964, James' death is given as Dec 5, 1856. Whether from a spirit of adventure, or a need to find more farm land or both, James moved to New Brunswick, Canada in 1811. He settled near Kingston, at a spot called Gorham's Creek. The creek runs inland from the Saint John River and the old homestead had a beautiful view of the river and the islands in it. James was buried at Tennant's Cove, across the river from the homestead at Gorham's Creek, since it was easier for winter burial than to go to Kingston.

James and Betsy Ann's family were Baptist Farmers.

The 1851 Parish of Kingston Census lists the family thus:

Research by Douglas Ivan Cosman: The eldest, James Thomas, the third, Barbara Ann Gorham, and the fourth, John Nelson, together with their families moved to the then developing area just beyong the head of the Millstream parish and were granted properties now known as Roy Cosman's place, The Frazee place, and the Gregg farm(?). Some time later John Nelson or his family sold to the Gregg family and purchased part of what is now known as Kenneth Cosman's farm.
More About JAMES THOMAS COSMAN: Burial: Carsonville United, New Brunswick Cause of Death (Facts Pg): Consumption Occupation: Farmer and shoemaker Residence: Millstream, New Brunswick Notes for MARY ANN GORHAM: Gorham: Var. Goram, Gorum The family is said to be descended from DeCorrams of LaTanniere, near Goramm, in Maine, France, on the borders of Brittany, where a William DeGorram built a castle in 1128. Ralph Gorham (originally spelled Gorrame) was born in 1575 at Benefield, Northamptonshire, England; he was the son of James Goramme, who was probably the member of the family who moved from France to England. John, son of Ralph, was an early settler in Massachusetts He arrived there in 1643. Descendants seem to have lived in and around Barnstable, Massachusetts James, son of John (b. 1650) seems to have been the first Gorham to move to Nova Scotia, to the Yarmouth- Barrington region. Many of the men of the family were in the military. A Joseph Gorham (b. 1725) was Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland 1770-1790. So the Gorhams were in Nova Scotia before the American Revolution. However, the Gorham family which settled on the River Saint John and married into the Cosman family were Loyalists. A Joseph Gorham and family sailed on the "Two Sisters", with the first group of Bay of Fundy Adventurers, which left New York as part of the June Fleet and arrived at Saint John on May 25, 1783. There were 1500 or 1600 others in this group.
